The Japan Patent Office (JPO) provided examiners of the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) with a training program on prior art search methods utilizing JPO’s patent classification (FI and F-term) for a total of three days, from August 5 to 7, 2024.
From the JPO, one International Training Instructor of the Global Patent Academy (GPA) with extensive practical experience in patent examination served as instructor, and one junior examiner supported the training program. From MyIPO, 20 patent examiners participated in the program.
The participants were assigned to work on case studies using relevant existing patent applications and performed prior art searches with FI and F-Term. They deepened their understanding of effective and efficient prior art search methods through case studies. Participants commented, "This interactive training program enables us to understand FI and F-term well. We would like to use FI and F-term in our future examination practices."
The JPO will continue to provide cooperation in patent examination practices to examiners in Malaysia and other emerging countries where further business expansion of Japan’s companies is expected, thereby supporting the development and strengthening of examination systems in those countries.
