JPO Provided DGIP Examiners with Face-to-Face Examination Practice Training Programs

October 31, 2024

The Japan Patent Office (JPO) provided face-to-face Examination Practice Training Programs for the Director General of Intellectual Property (DGIP) examiners in Indonesia for a total of four days from October 15 to 18, 2024. The training programs focused on AI/IoT and biotechnology fields.

This time, two examiners of the JPO, including International Training Instructor of the Global Patent Academy (GPA) with extensive practical experiences in AI/IoT and biotechnology fields, served as instructors. Fifty-six and fifty-seven DGIP patent examiners participated in the program for the AI/IoT field and the program for the biotechnology field, respectively.

The participants of both training programs were assigned to work on case studies using relevant existing patent applications of these two fields and deepened their understanding of determination methods specific to each of the AI/IoT field and the biotechnology field. Some participating DGIP examiners commented that they were able to enhance their examination capacity especially for how to determine an inventive step. Other participants remarked that, although some contents of the training programs were quite new to them, presentations well prepared by the instructors enabled them to understand the lectures easily.

The JPO will continue to provide cooperation in patent examination practices to examiners in Indonesia and other emerging countries where further business expansion of Japan's companies is expected, thereby supporting the development, and strengthening of examination systems in those countries.
