The Japan Patent Office (JPO) provided a four-day face-to-face examination Practice Training Program in the field of Blockchain for the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) patent examiners from September 15 to 18, 2025. This program was provided in response to IPOPHL’s request.
In this program, one JPO examiner, with extensive practical experience in patent examinations served as an instructor, and one JPO junior examiner served as a training assistant. Sixty-one IPOPHL patent examiners participated in the program.
The participants were assigned to work on case studies using relevant existing patent applications in the field of Blockchain and deepened their understanding of determination methods specific to the field. Some participating IPOPHL examiners commented that the instructor was well acquainted with the Blockchain field and kindly responded to their questions. Also, other participants remarked that the program enabled them to learn the emerging Blockchain technology more deeply.
The JPO will continue to provide cooperation in patent examination practices to examiners in Philippines and other emerging countries where further business expansion of Japan’s companies is expected, thereby supporting the development, and strengthening of examination systems in those countries.
