JPO Provided Examination Practice Training Program for the Department of Intellectual Property, Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Laos for the first time

The Japan Patent Office (JPO) provided a face-to-face Examination Practice Training Program for the personnel of the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP), Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Laos for four days from October 13 to 16, 2025 at Lao DIP. This program was implemented based on the Cooperation Statement agreed upon between the JPO and Lao DIP on June 11, 2025.

Two JPO trainers, including an International Training Instructor of the JPO's Global Patent Academy (GPA) with extensive practical experience in patent examination, gave lectures to 15 personnel from Lao DIP.

Through this program, the participants deepened their understanding of patent examination practices, including the criteria for determining novelty and inventive step, as well as the requirements for the description and claims. Feedback from participants included comments such as, “The instructor guided us through complex patent examination concepts step by step, using plenty of practical examples. The interactive discussions also helped us gain a clearer understanding."

The JPO will continue to cooperate on patent examination with Lao DIP and other foreign IP Offices.
