JPO Provided DGIP Examiners with Face-to-Face Examination Practice Training

The Japan Patent Office (JPO) provided face-to-face Examination Practice Training Programs for the Director General of Intellectual Property (DGIP) examiners in Indonesia for a total of four days from November 17 to 20, 2025. The training programs focused on patent examination practices in the polymer and telecommunication fields.

Two examiners of the JPO, who are International Training Instructors of the Global Patent Academy (GPA) with extensive practical experiences in the polymer and telecommunication fields, gave lectures to 40 DGIP patent examiners who participated in the program for the polymer field and 28 others who participated in the program for the telecommunication field.

The participants of both training programs were assigned to work on case studies using actual patent applications in these two fields and deepened their understanding of prior art search and determination criteria for novelty and an inventive step specific to each field. One participating DGIP examiner commented that the lecturer answered all questions kindly and thoroughly, which really helped to better understand examination in the polymer field. Another participant remarked that with the lecture materials well prepared and the lectures facilitating interactive communication, the program gave new knowledge necessary to examine complicated applications in the telecommunication field.

The JPO will continue to provide cooperation in patent examination practices to examiners in Indonesia and other emerging countries where further business expansion of Japan's companies is expected, thereby supporting the development and strengthening of examination systems in those countries.
