JPO Provided DIP Examiners with Face-to-Face Examination Practice Training Program

December 4, 2025

The Japan Patent Office (JPO) provided face-to-face Examination Practice Training Program for the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) Thailand.

This program covered various training courses for DIP examiners. The examination practice training course for new examiners was provided for a total of five days from November 25 to December 1, 2025, in which nine new examiners participated. At the same time, the following training courses were provided: a three-day search training course for the chemistry field with 48 participants from November 25 to 27; a three-day search training course for the engineering field with 40 participants from November 25 to 27; and a two-day management training course for patent examinations with 58 participants on November 27 and December 1.

From the JPO, five members, including International Training Instructors of The Global Patent Academy (GPA) with extensive practical experience in patent examination, served as instructors.

Participants deepened their understanding of patent examination practices such as prior art searches and JPO's determination criteria for novelty and an inventive step through OJT style case studies covering actual examples.

In the management training course for patent examinations, the participants learned the quality management, and the management for patent examination workload to make their examinations timely. Some participants commented, “Using case studies offer deeper insights into the concept of lectures to us.” Others stated, “Instructors’ detailed and polite explanations and following Q & A sessions enable us to understand the difficult contents of lectures well.”

The JPO will continue to provide cooperation in patent examination practices to examiners in Thailand and other emerging countries where further business expansion of Japan’s companies is expected, thereby supporting the development, and strengthening of examination systems in those countries.
