Service by Publication Under International Mail Service Suspension

The JPO will execute “Service by Publication" when difficulty in delivering documents to overseas residents has continued for a period of six months due to international mail service suspension by the Japan Post effective July 3, 2023 (Patent Act, Article 191-1-3 (where applicable for Utility Model Act, Article 55-2, Design Act, Article 68-5, Trademark Act, Article 77-5)).

Service by Publication will take effect 20 days after the date of publication in the Official Gazette under the Japanese Law.

Please note that procedures with the JPO must be carried out through an agent having a domicile or residence in Japan (Japan Patent Act, Article 8).
