Report

On December 17, 2022, the JPO and the Cell for IPR Promotion and Management(CIPAM) of India co-hosted Follow-up Seminar in Delhi.

This seminar was held on the theme of "Considering Attractive Designs", with both morning and afternoon sessions held.

The morning session focused on product design and the design system, with presentations given by JPO officials, designers from both countries, and private sector officials. The session was attended by about 100 participants, including JPO/IPR training alumni, government officials, and IP professionals from India.

Designers from both Indian and Japanese companies first gave lectures introducing examples of designs based on an approach that centers both customers and the environment. The lecturers and participants actively exchanged opinions on topics including eco-friendliness in design, minimalist designs, ensuring originality, and designs that consider the local market.

Next, speakers from both countries gave lectures on the design systems of their respective countries, wherein they introduced an overview of the design system along with its history and recent trends. This allowed participants to deepen their understanding with regard to the design systems in both India and Japan.

During the afternoon session, about 90 junior and senior high school students from local schools participated in a hands-on design creation classroom under the guidance of four instructors from The Design Village.

In response to a challenge, the students came up with their own attractive designs using familiar materials, working with their hands to create a final product.

Through these initiatives, the JPO will contribute toward continuous, self-sustaining development and improvement of the IP environment in India.
