PPH eXtra (PPH Improvement Initiative)

Outline

PPH eXtra is a self-initiated initiative aimed at improving the predictability of the examination timing for PPH applications. This initiative was launched in 2022 by the JPO and USPTO, leading the way globally.
PPH eXtra implementing offices have an obligation to set and publicly share their target average pendencies from PPH requests to the first office actions and from applicants' responses to the subsequent office actions. Additionally, PPH eXtra implementing offices are also required to publicly disclose their actual average pendencies.
Currently, the number of offices implementing this initiative is increasing.
