Winners decided for the EXPO2025 JPO-WIPO AWARD

The Japan Patent Office (JPO) of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and other organizations, will honor companies at EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan that embody the approach to intellectual property use which is being pursued by both the JPO and WIPO. This approach aims to generate innovation for solving societal challenges, including the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and designing a better future society. Following rigorous selection by the Selection Committee, five companies have been selected as award recipients.

1. Overview of the EXPO2025 JPO-WIPO AWARD

The EXPO2025 JPO-WIPO AWARD is a one-time prize established specifically for this occasion as a collaborative effort between the JPO and WIPO at EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The award recognizes companies that leverage IP to address societal challenges for the purpose of designing a better future in the field of climate change, as well as for the empowerment of a wide range of human resources including women and youth, which are areas in which the JPO and WIPO have been working together.

2. Award Recipients

The winning companies encompassed two in the climate change category, two in the women's empowerment category, and one in the youth empowerment category.

3. About the International Forum

JPO will hold an event at the Osaka-Kansai Expo titled “International Forums on the Promotion of Intellectual Property Utilization for the SDGs" together with the Director General of the WIPO, and commissioners of intellectual property offices from various countries.

The EXPO2025 JPO-WIPO AWARD Ceremony will be held as part of the International Forums.
